The question the Blue Waves Trip team hears most is “when is the best time to visit Phu Quoc?”. The short answer: November to April is best for the beach; May to October is the rainy season but still very doable, with lower prices and fewer people. Phu Quoc has a tropical monsoon climate with average temperatures of around 27–30°C, so there is no “cold season” – only a dry season and a rainy season.
Dry season (roughly November – April): best for islands and beaches
The northeast monsoon blows from the mainland, leaving the west coast and the South Island calm and crystal clear. This is the ideal time for speedboat trips around the An Thoi archipelago, coral snorkelling and sunsets at sea.
- November–December: rain tapers off, the air is cooler and crowds have not yet arrived – a “golden” window many people overlook.
- January–March: sunny days and the calmest seas of the year, but also peak season (Tet, international visitors), so book early.
- April: hotter, the sea is still beautiful and prices start to ease after the peak.
This season is perfect for sea tours such as the Nautilus yacht and May Rut Trong Island or North Island coral snorkelling.
Rainy season (roughly May – October): cheaper, greener and quieter
The southwest monsoon brings rain. Showers in Phu Quoc tend to be heavy but short, rarely lasting all day. The west coast can be rough and boats sometimes adjust their schedules. In return, the island is lush, streams are full and hotels and resorts often offer big discounts.
- May–June: early rainy season with plenty of sunny days – great value.
- July–September: the wettest months; the west coast is often choppy, so favour land sights and east-coast beaches.
- October: the rain eases, the weather softens and room rates are low.
Rainy-season tip: schedule sea activities for the morning (usually drier), always have a backup such as theme parks, the cable car or night markets, and ask your tour operator about sea conditions the day before.
